E-filing Profile (to be confirmed): If you have an EFile profile, we will request the profile from you. Please release the profile. If you do not have an EFile profile, we will set it up on our profile. As soon as the registration is completed, you can request it back, and we will release the profile.
VAT Incurred: Input VAT that you incurred before the VAT Registration Date cannot be claimed back. Normally, if we do the registration during a month, SARS backdates the Registration to the beginning of that month.
Income Tax: The Individual Directors of the Company need to be Registered for Income Tax purposes.
Tax Compliant: If the Public Officer or Directors or The Company is not tax compliant, SARS will not register the company for VAT.
Site Inspection: After your VAT Registration has been submitted, SARS may request a “Site Inspection” based on their discretion. It happens to about 20% of all applications. A Site Inspection means that SARS will visit the address you’ve provided on this Information Form to double-check that you actually have an office at this address.
Supporting Documents: After your VAT Registration has been submitted, SARS may require supporting documents to be uploaded onto e-Filing under a SARS provided case number. We will submit this documentation on your behalf. This might delay your application @ SARS with an additional 21 working days.
Public Officer: The Public Officer must be a South African citizen. If he is not, he will have to appoint a South African citizen as the Public Officer. We will then need a signed Resolution confirming this appointment. We will also need a Valid Proof of Address in the name of the Public Officer.
In case SARS requires our Tax Practitioner to come in there will be R0 additional cost, but a delay of 1 week. In more urgent requests for assistance within one week, depending on the type of SARS visit required, we will charge an additional R590 – R990.
NOTE: Company Startup will not be held responsible in cases where the application for the vat registration is declined by SARS, as a result of inaccurate information provided on the VAT Questionnaire. Costs related to the resubmission of such applications will be billed to your account.
Proof of Trading Requirements: Please note that SARS requires some form of trade for the application to be accepted and needs to correspond to an actual receipt in your bank account. If this cannot be provided, the application will be rejected. Please see below regarding what qualifies as proof of trade:
What do you require if you have traded?
Proof of trading such as the following:
- Guaranteed signed sales agreement or contract with amount agreed upon reflecting in bank account.
- Customer invoices, invoice amounts must be paid and reflect in bank account.
Please be noted that it is only compulsory to register for VAT once your turnover has breached the R1 million threshold. You can voluntarily register for VAT but only if you have sales of more than R50 000 with minimum 3 invoices for amounts R4300 which have to reflect on bank statements.
To ensure successful registration, you will need to show either:
R50 000 worth of income received in your business bank account
R4 300 worth of income over 2x consecutive months
R4 300 worth of income for a single month that agrees to a sales contract
